Lisa's 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy work
Lisa is a proud and longstanding member of, and advocate for the 2SLGBTQAI+ community. In fact, it is one of the main issues that inspired them to run for public office. As Nova Scotia's first openly gender-diverse MLA, Lisa is proud to bring community issues in front of the Legislature.
Lisa hosted the first-ever public Pride event at Province House in the summer of 2022, and can often be seen in the Province House courtyard hosting speakers, press, and community events, as well as raising various flags to show solidarity with different communities across Nova Scotia - rain or shine!
In the spring of 2022, Lisa introduced Bill 141 to the Legislature; an Act to Establish an Advisory Committee Respecting Gender-affirming Health-care. If it had passed the House, it would have compelled the provincial government to gather a committee that would make recommendations to improve gaps in gender-affirming care and catch Nova Scotia up with the WPATH Standards of Care.
Community engagement
On approximately a monthly basis, Lisa hosts a 2SLGBTQIA+ Forum, open to any identifying community members, their allies, and community stakeholders.
Discussion topics vary from meeting to meeting, but will often include updates on Lisa's legislative work. If you join our email list, we regularly share meeting dates and agenda items. Meetings take place on zoom so anyone can participate from any location.
